Lost in Translation is an art installation that features a 44in x 43in collaged magazine print with interpretative Chinese characters painted in acrylic. Paired with the painting is an audio accompaniment that presents a clip of my grandmother recounting her life in China in the left earpiece and a narration of my written poem “What’s in a name?” in the right earpiece. In this manner, the dissonance of losing language as a child of first-generation immigrant parents becomes very apparent.
